Introduction to staking

Staking is the process of depositing your tokens in a smart contract (a blockchain-based contract with conditions programmed into the code) and receiving rewards for doing so. Unlike trading, when staking, there is a guarantee that you will increase your token holdings.
The tokens are locked in the smart contract until you withdraw them and can only be withdrawn to the same wallet from which the deposit was made.
The BCVT staking contract works only with MetaMask wallet which we will discuss below.

What is MetaMask wallet?

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet and a web browser extension simultaneously (available in Chrome, Firefox and Brave). It is used to store, send and receive Ethereum and ERC20 tokens like BCVT, USDT and others.

As a web browser extension, MetaMask allows users to make Ethereum/ERC20 transactions through regular websites, making staking very straightforward.

Before using MetaMask, you should be aware of two golden rules:
  • Never leave your device unattended when your MetaMask wallet is open
  • Always lock your MetaMask wallet after use (it will not lock automatically)
ATTENTION NEWCOMERS: We recommend reading “Securing your crypto and online life” before proceeding any further.

You will need to set up a MetaMask wallet and deposit BCVT into that wallet to begin staking. To set up MetaMask go here. Then add it to your browser extensions and follow the instructions below.

How to add BCVT to MetaMask wallet

In MetaMask, the same wallet address is used to receive ETH and ERC20 tokens such as BCVT, USDT and others. So, you can send BCVT to your MetaMask address; there is no need to create anything specifically for BCVT.

Once you have sent BCVT to your MetaMask wallet, it will not appear until you take one more step. To view BCVT in your MetaMask wallet, you will need to add a custom token.

In the assets section, click on “Add Token”, select the “Custom Token” tab and input the following contract address:

Once you have done this, the BCVT you deposited will appear, and you are ready to stake.

How to Stake BCVT

If you are unfamiliar with staking using MetaMask, before following the steps below, make sure you have:
  1. Saved your seed phrase in a safe place

  2. A strong password on your wallet

  3. Added the extension to your browser

  4. 1,000 BCVT in your wallet (5,000 for full benefits)

  5. Enough ETH in your wallet to cover transaction fees

  6. Good internet connection and are free from distractions

We recommend you use a laptop or desktop computer during this process rather than your mobile because it is much easier from a larger screen.
Furthermore, during the staking process, be patient and use above-average gas/fees to avoid delays or failed transactions. You can check the latest gas rates here. Do NOT repeatedly click any buttons or prompts because you might waste the gas/ETH by doing so.

Step-by-step staking guide

Staking is simple. Follow these steps to get going.
  1. Connecting MetaMask

Click here to open the staking interface
Make sure you are logged into MetaMask, click “CONNECT” to connect your MetaMask wallet. MetaMask will ask your permission, permit it.

  2. Creating Your Stake

Once your MetaMask wallet is successfully connected, click “CREATE STAKE” and input the amount you wish to stake in the pop-out, then click “CREATE”.
MetaMask should now pop open, asking permission for the BitcoinVend site to spend BCVT.

  3. Permission & Fees

The first prompt will be to allow the BitcoinVend site to spend your BCVT; the second will be to confirm you want to interact with the staking contract. You can edit the transaction fee on either step.
Select high transactions fees to avoid delays or failure and confirm both steps.

  4. Checking Your Stake

If you completed the above steps correctly, you should see your stake in the interface; you can also look at the staking contract here to check your transactions went through.
Congratulations, you are now staking BCVT!

  5. Lock Your MetaMask

Once you have completed the steps, make sure to lock your MetaMask wallet. You can check back at any stage to see the rewards building up by logging into your MetaMask and clicking “CONNECT” on the staking interface.
If you have any issues, check out the troubleshooting section below.

Having trouble? Check out these troubleshooting tips

Failed transaction?
Check that you are using sufficient gas; you can see the latest gas rates here. In the advanced section, adjust the GWEI if needed.
Having trouble with MetaMask?
Lock your wallet, close the browser, check you have a good internet connection and try again or try using MetaMask from a different browser.
MetaMask giving a “contract error”?
Try staking a different amount, i.e., 19,215 BCVT is failing, round up or down and try again, for example, with 20,000 BCVT.
